Jon Raper

Sound engineers will never become just IT people, because they need to understand dynamic range, limiting, compression, masking, speech intelligibility and other sound engineering concepts. But most of all they need to understand what happens when the sound leaves the loudspeaker and that is acoustics.

Jon Raper

Jon was trained in the telecommunications industry and installed one of the country's first digital telephone transmission links as well as video links between defence establishments.

He used his technical knowledge to service the recording studio business as the equipment began to get smaller and the number of studios increased.

In 1982 he was a founder of Raper & Wayman Ltd, a company which supplied and installed all levels of professional audio equipment. As technical director his responsibilities were many and varied from cable design to broadcast studio installation. In 1986 Jon's focus moved towards the design and installation of sound reinforcement systems. During this period the company was involved in many projects ranging from boardrooms to theatres; the range of installations steadily expanded.

In 2002 Jon formed R K Sound Engineering Ltd to focus on the engineering aspects of sound system design & installation.

Jon is a Council Member of the Institute of Sound and Communications Engineers (ISCE) and has given technical seminars for the ISCE as well as master class seminars at PLASA, the industry exhibition.

Jon has tackled some challenging projects both abroad and in the UK.
