His interest in helping those with hearing loss started early in his career and is an integral part of both his business and private life.

Having gained expertise within the Audio Visual department of his local county council, he was headhunted by LIC of Sweden ( more on them ) to promote their innovative constant current range of loop amplifiers, where he worked closely with Conny Andersson ( an international loop expert and Chairman of the international standards committee) to steer BS7594 - the code of practice for audio frequency induction loops. Spearheading a new division of the Royal National Institute for the Deaf -RNID ( Renamed 'Action on Hearing' ), was followed by a decision to set up his own business and AVT Communication Systems was launched in 1980.

Both John and his wife ( an educational audiologist for 39 years), are active advocates for loops. They are committee members for their local Deaf Children's Society and regular fund raisers and event organisers.

John trained with the ICSE and is an active member ( Institute of Sound and Communication Engineers) and is a registered ISCE approved AFILS (Audio Frequency Induction Loop Systems) Assessor.
